I've always enjoyed doing a few special things for the kids on Valentine's Day. It's a fun holiday and a great excuse to make everything red and pink :).
(I have some thoughts about the "heart", so to speak, about Valentine's Day, but I want to make that another post :)).
So for now, I have a few things planned to spice up our day! I've been scanning the web (mostly Pinterest) for some great ideas. Here's our plans so far-
Breakfast-
Fruity Breakfast Smoothy-
1 Cup of frozen fruit/person (I usually let the fruit thaw a little bit before I give the processor a go)
About 1/2 cup yogurt (any flavor)/person
About 1/4 cup of milk/person
Honey or Stevia to sweeten
Blend in a food processor or blender. Honestly, I don't really measure the amounts of yogurt and milk. I usually just start blending and go from there.
Heart shaped cinnamon buns- found here- http://spicedblog.com/valentines-heart-shaped-cinnamon-rolls.html
These are so cute! Although, I'll be honest, I don't know that I will make these from scratch...I might perhaps buy them pre done and then shape them.
Bag of Goodies- I like to surprise the kids with a little bag of goodies..stuff I usually grab from the dollar store. (Little tip- if you live by a Wegman's or somewhere with bulk candy..I find it extremely cheap to buy the kids a few chocolate hearts in bulk or whatever candy. I can usually get it for like 75% percent off the price of buying a retail bag.)
Lunch-
Heart shaped sandwiches- PBJ or Turkey, depending on the child :). I'll just use a knife to cut out a heart shape.
Valentine's Jelly Pops- Yummo! You can find the recipe here- http://jelly-shot-test-kitchen.blogspot.com/2012/01/valentine-jelly-pops.html.
These looked so fun! I am really excited to make these, and really, their not too sugary.
But, as you can tell from my other plans...I'm not going for the no sugar valentine's day option....
Daytime Activities-
I saw this and thought I have to do it with the kids!! What a cute idea, found here- http://www.classifiedmom.com/2012/02/valentines-day-kids-craft-love-cupcake.html.One book we've used for years is the Story of Valentine's Day by Nancy Skarmeas. It's a cute little board book that explains Valentine's Day very basically.
Evening Activity-
Movie Night with Valentine's Day Popcorn Mix- found here- http://sweetpenniesfromheaven.com/valentines-day-kids-treats-sweet-heart-trail-mix/
So, I don't really have dinner plans just yet. But I think I might have enough on my plate with these other plans!
Do you have plans for Valentine's Day? I've love to hear about them!

Hi, Annie! Love your ideas for a fun and festive Valentine celebration! I have a plastic stamp that says, "I love you" when you press it into a piece of toast. We'll have that on Valentine plates for breakfast. Found it at the Dollar Store years ago--good deal :)
ReplyDeleteYay! how fun. I saw your picture on Facebook this morning. What a cute idea! I ran to the dollar store last night for few last minute things for today. Gotta love that place :).
